Summary of the Māori labour market for the year to December 2006:

 

  • • Between December 2000 and December 2006 the youth (15-24 year olds) unemployment rate for Māori fell from 23.9% to 18.1%.
  • • Māori account for 18% of all industry trainees, compared with a 9% share of the workforce in 2005
