Our vision is to expand Māori economic pathways – to create, grow and succeed in our future together, ka hua, ka tupu, ka toa - in order to build a strong and prosperous nation.
The Trust is geared towards transformational thinking and sustainable solutions. We are empowering Maori economic development through
projects targeting groups of people identifed as being likely to beneft the most from having their potential unleashed.
Although our focus is on Māori economic development, the successful unleashing of Māori potential is in the interests of non-Māori as much as
it is in the interests of Māori; economic development for Māori will beneft the whole of New Zealand.
Strategic Priorities
The work of the Hui Taumata Trust is guided by six strategic priorities:
He Tangata, He Tangata: to build and maximise the potential of
Māori capacity
He Ao Tupu Rawa: to foster enterprise culture and expand Māori
entrepreneurial success
He Pae Tāwhiti: to provide strategic information that inspires and accelerates Māori development locally and globally
He Tira Paraoa: to create an environment of excellence in
Māori leadership and governance
Tāpui Hei Whakatupu: to increase investment in Māori development
and utilisation of collectively owned assets
Mātauranga Māori: to capitalise on indigeneity as a point of difference for New Zealand and an inexhaustible source of creativity and innovation
The Hui Taumata Trust
Following the Hui Taumata in 2005 the Hui Taumata Taskforce was established to undertake research in key areas identified at the Hui.
The research continues to be implemented through ongoing projects and the Hui Taumata Taskforce constituted the Hui Taumata Trust late in 2006 to carry the work programme forward. The 2005 hui provides the mandate for the Hui Taumata and continues to guide the work programme of the Trust in the Trusts mission to empower Maori economic development.
The Hui Taumata Trust is a unique group with representatives from Maoridom, the Business community and Unions, the Trust has a sole corporate trustee the Hui Taumata Trustee Limited.
